This special diversity issue of Contumacy is dedicated to the members of the Texas Legislature who called for Professor Graglia's dismissal in September. Without their perilous disregard for academic freedom and the first amendment, this issue would never have appeared. Special thanks should also be given to Chancellor William Cunningham and President Peter Flawn, whose spinelessness in the face of the Graglia controversy makes us wish for the return of John Silber -- one of the few academic administrators alive who ever had the courage to speak truth to power.
