Does the First Amendment apply only to the politically correct? Are the privileges of free speech valid for only those with left-wing political orientations? Our friends in the Student Government (SG) seem to think so. In fact, they say they'd rather not be "offended" by our newspaper (see page 6), so they ask that we stop distributing Contumacy to our elected SG officials.
Diversity of skin tones is a must, but forget diversity of viewpoints, right? As constituents, aren't Contumacy staffers entitled to voice their concerns? Apparently not, unless we're Mexican supremacists (Mechistas) or UT NAACP members. Hell, if we were a part of those groups, we could even hold university buildings hostage and demand and receive private meetings with the Regents to strong-arm them in appealing the Hopwood decision.
But alas, the invertebrates in the administration won't be our yes-men until we can find a way to slap a racial harassment suit on them. By the way, if you've just picked this up from your mailbox, Student Government official, please let me know what university rule we are guilty of violating. How can we sue you without a formal complaint being filed against us?
For liberty, I will,
